Katy Potter Wemborg is a decorated former NCAA Division I field hockey player who competed at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 2000 to 2004. During her collegiate career, she was a key contributor to the Tar Heels’ 2004 ACC Championship team and earned numerous honors, including First Team All-ACC and Second Team All-American distinctions in her senior year. She was named the team’s Ken and Cheryl Rookie of the Year in 2000 and was selected to the U.S. Under-23 National Team. Katy also competed for the elite Pennsylvania Pride United Airlines Summer League team in 2001 and 2002 and served as a coach at UNC’s field hockey summer camps throughout her college years.

Before her time at UNC, Katy was a standout athlete at Emmaus High School in Pennsylvania, where she helped lead her team to back-to-back state championships in 1996 and 1997. A three-time First Team All-State and All-Conference selection, she earned Second Team All-American honors in 2000, served as team captain, and was named MVP her senior year. Her team won the conference and district titles all four years of her high school career. She also participated in the National Futures Program from 1997 to 2000 and played for the Pennsylvania Pride summer league team in 1999.

 

Beyond field hockey, Katy is a lifelong athlete with a passion for the outdoors. She grew up ski racing in Pennsylvania, competing at the state level and in the Junior Olympics. She also played four years of high school soccer, winning a state championship in 1997 and earning team captain and Most Inspiring Player honors in 2000. A multi-sport competitor with a love for animals, Katy also showed horses competitively. Today, she enjoys hiking and skiing with her family and continues to share her passion for field hockey through coaching and youth development.
