Carrie Wernig

bio
Carrie Wernig is a lifelong athlete and passionate coach in the field hockey community. A three-sport captain in high school—field hockey, basketball, and softball—Carrie was inducted into her high school’s Athletic Hall of Fame for her leadership and athletic accomplishments.
She went on to play Division I field hockey at Providence College, where she was a four-year starter for the Friars. Carrie earned Big East All-Rookie honors as a freshman, helped lead her team to a #6 national ranking as a sophomore, received Honorable Mention for the Big East All-Stars her junior year, and served as team captain her senior season, earning Big East First Team All-Conference honors. She remains among the top 40 all-time in total points at Providence College.
Carrie began coaching immediately after graduating in 2000, launching a youth field hockey camp that continues to grow today. She spent 12 successful seasons coaching at the high school level, where her teams qualified for the playoffs every year, won four Tri-Valley League titles, and completed an undefeated season in 2004. After stepping away from high school coaching in 2013 following the birth of her third child, she turned her focus to the Franklin youth program.
In 2018, Carrie co-founded Franklin Premier Field Hockey with Kim Carney to provide local athletes with access to high-level coaching in a supportive and competitive environment. What started as a small grassroots effort evolved into Premier Field Hockey Club in 2020—now one of the area’s leading clubs for player development and competitive play.
Carrie is known for her coach-at-heart mentality, deep love of the game, and unwavering commitment to helping young athletes grow both on and off the field.
