bio
Colin Clarke, originally from Northern Ireland, is entering his second season with the Northeastern University field hockey program. He brings extensive international coaching and playing experience to the Huskies, having previously served as Head of Field Hockey at Nottingham Trent University (NTU) in England from 2015 to 2022. At NTU, Clarke transformed the program from outside the national top 20 to the No. 1 ranked university team in the country, culminating in a BUCS Men’s Championship title in 2020—the first in the program’s history.
In addition to his success at the university level, Clarke has held numerous elite coaching roles on the international stage. He served as Head Coach of the Great Britain U21 Women’s National Team, leading them to a bronze medal at the 2017 European Championships, and as Assistant Coach for the Great Britain U21 Men’s Team at the prestigious Sultan of Johor Cup in Malaysia. He also worked closely with senior international players from Great Britain, Ireland, and the USA.
Clarke’s club coaching resume includes leading the Beeston Ladies from conference to national premier level, earning the club’s first National Senior Title by winning the EH Championships in 2020. As Head Coach of Grange Men’s Hockey Club beginning in 2011, he led the team to a national championship, three Scottish National Cups, and a European trophy.
Clarke began his coaching career in 2011 as an assistant with the Scotland Senior Women’s National Team, contributing to two European Championship appearances and the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Before transitioning into coaching, he competed internationally as a member of the Scotland Senior Men’s National Squad from 2006 to 2009.
In addition to his collegiate and international roles, Clarke is making a strong impact at the youth level in the United States as Head Coach for Premier Field Hockey Club. His leadership, expertise, and high-performance coaching approach are helping elevate Premier’s athletes and program, providing players with the tools and mindset to compete at the highest levels of the game.
